The Seattle Mariners are back from the first of two off days this spring training and will get their first look at the ’26 Angels in a game at Peoria Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Mariners GM doesn’t rule out top pitching prospects debuting in ’26

With all World Baseball Classic participants now having left camp, the games will have a different feel as the younger players will have the opportunity to get longer looks and the veterans will continue on a more typical buildup.

“It’s a matter of weighing what’s too much and what’s not enough and trying to strike that balance as we go forward,” Mariners manager Dan Wilson said of the now smaller player mix in camp. “It’s just a matter of mapping it out and being smart as we go along.”

There is a very welcome return for two vets in the lineup Tuesday. First, J.P. Crawford returns to the lineup as the designated hitter. Crawford has been dealing with a shoulder issue and will be hit-only for the remainder of the week. Second, Mitch Garver will make his spring debut after signing a minor league contract to return to the M’s two weeks ago.

Lineup!

Brendan Donovan, 3B
Rob Refsnyder, RF
Luke Raley, LF
Mitch Garver, C
J.P. Crawford, DH
Patrick Wisdom, 1B
Ryan Bliss, 2B
Colt Emerson, SS
Rhylan Thomas, CF

Bryan Woo, P

Also scheduled to pitch: Michael Morales, Michael Rucker, Cole Wilcox, Casey Legumina, Domingo Gonzalez, Robinson Ortiz.

First pitch for the Mariners’ Cactus League game against the Los Angeles Angels will be at 12:10 p.m. Seattle time, with the live radio broadcast starting at noon on the Seattle Sports app.

Notes

• Bryce Miller is scheduled to play a light catch Tuesday to see where he is with the left oblique soreness he experienced after his Cactus League start last Thursday.

• It was good to see Cole Young check in with his first hit of the spring Sunday, a 442-foot blast off a hanging slider. An 0 for 8 in early spring training is nothing to be concerned about. Nevertheless, Wilson was happy to see Young connect.

“He feels like he wasn’t in a good spot at the plate yet, but to get that pitch and drive it like that was really good to see,” Wilson said. “He’s just got a good swing, we’ve seen the power. We will just continue to give him the time he needs at second base and with his at-bats. For him, it’s just about finding that consistent contact. The rhythm and timing of it all is I think the hardest part of spring training and I think he is starting to find that as we go forward.”

• The Mariners have not just lost players to the World Baseball Classic, but also coaches. Two-thirds of the major league hitting staff has exited for the WBC with senior director of hitting strategy Edgar Martinez and assistant hitting coach Bobby Magallanes coaching for Puerto Rico and Mexico, respectively. Additionally, bullpen catcher Fleming Baez is working with the team from the Dominican Republic. Back in Peoria, Mariners hitting coach Kevin Seitzer has plenty of help in the cages with the Triple-A hitting staff and organizational coordinators pitching in.

• George Kirby threw a sim game at the complex Monday to keep him on turn. All reportedly went well. Luis Castillo also was at the complex to throw a bullpen.
