Diana Taurasi to be inducted into Mercury Ring of Honor this August

  • March 4, 2026

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A Phoenix Mercury legend will receive the organization’s highest honor as her jersey hangs from the rafters, forever etched in Valley history.

Diana Taurasi, three-time WNBA champion and the league’s all-time leading scorer, will be inducted into the Mercury Ring of Honor on Aug. 16. Fellow Mercury legends, former teammates, coaches and Taurasi’s family will be in attendance to celebrate the champion.

Taurasi’s No. 3 will officially be retired, joining fellow legends Cheryl Miller, Jennifer Gillom, Bridget Pettis, Michele Timms and her wife, Penny Taylor.

“For two decades, Diana set the standard for what it means to win, compete and lead at the highest level, doing it in a way that was uniquely hers,” Phoenix Mercury and Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia said in a statement. “We look forward to celebrating her legendary career as we raise her name and number to the rafters.”

Taurasi has not only been an integral part of Mercury history, but also in the Valley community. The Mercury’s practice facility pays homage to Taurasi and her legacy, with a logo of her etched into the flooring. The iconic silhouette is in honor of her 10,000 career points, becoming the first player in WNBA history to achieve that honor.

Taurasi was selected first overall by Phoenix in the 2004 draft and spent 20 seasons with the team. She led the Mighty Mercury to three WNBA championships and was a 14-time All-Star. She was also voted the league’s Greatest Player of All Time, solidifying her GOAT status.

Along with her league achievements, Taurasi has also seen immense success in the Olympics, becoming the only player to win six gold medals.

She announced her departure from the game of basketball last year, stating that she is “full and happy.”

Tickets are now on sale as the Mercury host the Portland Fire that night at 7 p.m. Fans can grab tickets here.
