Nebraska is not much more than a week into spring practice, but recruiting never waits.

The upcoming weekend is shaping up as one of the most important dates on the Huskers’ recruiting calendar for the class of 2027. With their first scrimmage set for Saturday, the staff will host a loaded group of prospects — nine confirmed as of March 3 — hoping to turn a memorable weekend into future signatures.

Here’s who’s expected in Lincoln.

Wide Receiver

Offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen and receivers coach Dakiel Shorts will be busy.

The headliner is four-star wideout Quentin Burrell, the No. 11 receiver in the 2027 class out of Mount Carmel (Ill.). At 6-foot-3, he brings length and speed — and would give Nebraska another pipeline piece from the Chicago powerhouse. He has the tools to be a future No. 1 option.

Four-star Khalil Taylor, a 5-foot-11 playmaker from Pine-Richland (Pa.), is also scheduled to visit. He already has chemistry with Nebraska quarterback commit Trae Taylor from the 7-on-7 circuit. Penn State currently holds the edge, but the Huskers will try to close ground this weekend.

Three-star athlete Kaden Howard could be the most realistic win. The Miami Palmetto product has trended toward Nebraska in recent days. He’s undersized at 5-foot-10, 155 pounds, but comes from the same high school as current Husker Jacory Barney — and his recruitment is rising quickly. A strong visit could lead to a commitment.

Defensive Line

New defensive line coach Corey Brown gets his first major recruiting weekend in Lincoln.

Four-star interior lineman David Folorunsho (6-4, 280) from St. Patrick (Ill.) is the top target in the group. Notre Dame is viewed as the team to beat, but Nebraska will get its shot to make an impression.

Three-star defensive tackle Waylon Wooten returns for his second visit since February. The Georgia native has SEC attention, but repeat trips matter. Nebraska has positioned itself to stay in the conversation.

Defensive Back

After finishing second nationally against the pass in 2025, the secondary coaches have something to sell. Defensive backs coach Addison Williams and first-year safeties coach Tyler Yelk will both host a visitor this weekend.

Four-star safety Tavares Harrington of Mount Carmel (Ill.) will be on campus for his first visit. At 6-foot-3, he fits the Big Ten mold, but Nebraska is battling Alabama, Georgia and Notre Dame, among others. Development and scheme will be the pitch.

Four-star corner Kei’Shjuan Telfair from Euclid, Ohio, also makes the trip. With nearly 40 offers, he won’t be easy to land. Penn State looms here as well. Still, getting him to campus is a positive step toward securing an official visit later this year.

Linebacker

Linebackers coach Rob Dvoracek helped new defensive coordinator Rob Aurich hit the transfer portal hard this offseason to bolster their second line of defense with three new players for 2026. But they’re looking for more by hosting four-star Brandon Lockley, the No. 17 linebacker in the class.

The Pennsylvania native has Big Ten size, and Penn State is the favorite. But Nebraska is believed to have the second-best odds. This weekend is about closing the gap.

New offensive line coach Geep Wade and run game coordinator Lonnie Teasley will swing big.

Five-star interior lineman Albert Simien of Sam Houston (La.) is the No. 15 overall player in the country. Texas A&M and LSU currently have the inside track, but Nebraska has made him a priority. Quarterback commit Trae Taylor’s presence won’t hurt.

Landing Simien would turbo-charge the trajectory of the class. Even positioning for an official visit would qualify as progress.

Every recruit visiting this weekend has other stops scheduled. Instant commitments aren’t a realistic hope in most cases.

Some of these prospects have already been to Lincoln. Others have existing relationships with members of the staff. These are unofficial visits, so securing official dates for the fall is the real objective. That’s when decisions typically crystallize, and locking in official visits will tell the tale of how serious these recruitments really are.

Nebraska currently holds the No. 7 class nationally in 2027. Adding even one or two names from this weekend would strengthen that standing and reinforce the momentum under head coach Matt Rhule.

A program with this much history can be held down for only so long. Now it’s time for Rhule and company to get it back on the right track.
