MADISON (WKOW) — The Henry Vilas Zoo reopened its Tundra Buggy on Tuesday.

The Tundra Buggy is a key attraction at the zoo’s polar bear exhibit. It was closed during the winter for updates.

The attraction, originally used for polar bear research, now features redesigned interior and updated signage. The enhancements aim to educate children on polar bear conservation efforts.

Guests can explore the buggy, learn about conservation work, and enjoy specials at the Glacier Grille. Visitors will also see polar bears Nora, Siku, and Berit with special enrichment activities.

“The arrival of Nora and Siku has deepened our community’s connection to polar bear conservation and awareness of the urgent threat to their Arctic habitat,” said Dane County Executive Melissa Agard.

The Tundra Buggy was first designed in 1979. Newer models now boast electric capabilities for quieter, eco-friendly research.
