Everton could be about to take a step forward in their pursuit of Tyler Dibling.

David Moyes’ side have not seen their transfer window progress as they would perhaps have expected over the past few weeks, as the big-money deals that were mooted at the start of the summer have largely eluded them.

Nevertheless, Dibling has now fallen into Everton’s sights, with the Merseysiders adding the starlet to their list of potential targets towards the end of last week.

The Southampton youngster had a breakthrough season last time out, and that has understandably seen him catch the eye of the Premier League’s elite.

Everton to pay £25m+ for Dibling as Moyes may get his wish

Moyes made it clear after Everton’s pre-season defeat to Bournemouth that he needs more additions to his squad, and the Dibling development must be music to his ears.

The likes of Manchester United and Tottenham showed an interest in the 19-year-old earlier in the summer, but now it is the Merseysiders who are eyeing up potential progress towards a deal.

Southampton are previously understood to have set an asking price of £40million for the attacking midfielder, which is thought to be a stumbling block for the Toffees.

However, ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – believes that Moyes and Co. may look to launch an initial bid of £25m, and use add-ons to push the total package up towards the Saints’ demands.

“I’d say £40m is too much for a young player personally,” King said.

“I certainly wouldn’t pay £40m for him (Dibling). I’d pay £25m with add-ons, which could probably take you up to that kind of figure.

“But I wouldn’t go and lay out £40m for him now.

“He’s in the Championship now, and the fact is that if he’s going to stay at Southampton, he’s probably going to find the Championship harder than he did the Premier League.”

Everton have now secured the signing of Adam Aznou, with the left-back arriving to cover a major area of concern within the squad.

However, the Toffees are still carrying a light squad across the board, so any additions will be welcome in the last few weeks before the season gets underway.

Dibling may not necessarily slot straight in as one of their main creative outlets, but he would certainly get regular minutes under Moyes, given the lack of alternative options that he currently has at his disposal.

There has been a concerted effort to target younger players this summer, with three of Everton’s four permanent signings (including Charly Alcaraz) currently aged 22 or under.

Dibling would also help to freshen up the squad with a little more youthful exuberance, and he possesses a level of potential that makes him a hugely exciting prospect.

It remains to be seen whether the Toffees will materialise their interest, but if they do make a move for the Southampton star, it would be the highlight of their window.
