EastEnders star Harriet Thorpe has exclusively revealed to Inside Soap that Elaine and Ian’s feud is set to become even more entertaining – and hasn’t ruled out a romance for the pair!

It didn’t take long for the war to turn personal, with Elaine accidentally injuring Ian’s mum, Kathy, while trying to seek revenge on her rival. After that, both Elaine and Ian decided that they would compete against each other for a vacant position on the local council.
“I love the beef they have as they’re vying to get on the council,” reveals Harriet Thorpe, who has played Elaine since 2023. “There are serious stories going on with other characters that are often life and death, but with Ian and Elaine, it’s the pettiness and hilarity of the neighbourhood WhatsApp group, and it’s a joy to play.”
The comedic scenes between Elaine and Ian have undoubtedly delighted EastEnders fans, with some even suggesting that hatred could turn to romance for the pair! But what does Harriet make of that idea?
“I couldn’t possibly say!” Harriet remarks. “Ian is another one [as well as Max Branning] who’s worked his way around the Square, I don’t think Elaine has time for all that, but who knows?”
Whatever the future has in store, Ian and Elaine are set to remain in each other’s lives – for good or bad – and Harriet is certain that audiences will be gripped by what’s to come…

“The gauntlet is down and the fight is on,” teases the actress. “It’s funny and fantastic at the same time. They’re both out to get each other, and it’s a brilliant roller coaster of a journey that will keep delivering!
“What’s about to happen between them will hook everyone in…”
