Maika Monroe is recalling what it was like working with Timothé Chalamet on the movie Hot Summer Nights

Maika Monroe is opening up about what it was like working with Timothée Chalamet in the 2017 crime-romance film, Hot Summer Nights.
The movie saw Chalamet, now 30, act as a sheltered teenage boy who comes of age during a wild summer on Cape Cod, during which time he makes money selling drugs and falls in love with his business partner’s sister (played by Monroe, now 32).
Speaking on the Monday, March 9 episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actress recounted Chalamet’s audition for the role — which she said was unexpected.

When she first met Chalamet, she said he had “just filmed or was going to film Call Me By Your Name,” so he was a somewhat under-the-radar actor at the time.
She had already been cast in the role, and Chalamet was brought in to do a chemistry read with her.
“I mean, I had the part first, and I did chemistry reads with, you know, four different guys, and he was one of the kids that came in,” she continued. “I mean and physically, you know, he was this tiny, little, skinny kid, and … he walked in the room, and I was like, ‘I just … I don’t know how we fit, like, romantically. I don’t know if if… physically [works]. And he just absolutely, like, blew it out of the water.”
She added: “He left the room, and we’re all just like, ‘What just happened?'”
“I think he was always just destined for for this. I think he was made for this this job and this career, for sure,” Monroe said.

Monroe is currently starring in the film Reminders of Him, a complicated romantic drama based on a Colleen Hoover book that debuts March 13.
Chalamet, meanwhile, is now a three-time Best Actor Oscar nominee who is up for the award again this month for his role in the Josh Safdie-directed Marty Supreme.
