— The Douglas County Library
organization will host its annual Used Book Sale Tuesday, Aug. 5 through Thursday, Aug. 7.
Open to the public, the event will take place at the Runestone Community Center, 802 3rd Avenue West, in Alexandria. The hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday. There will be books in many different categories/genres, including paperbacks, hardcovers, older, collectible, audio-visual, fiction and non-fiction.
Bags will be provided or customers can bring their own. Bags can be filled for $5 each. Larger bags, though, are priced higher. There is no limit on the number of bags that can be purchased. Keep in mind that the only forms of payment accepted will be cash or check.
According to organizers, the main helpers for this event are LifeRight Outreach program members; Tom Weller, program director for the Professional Truck Driver program at Alexandria Technical Community College; one of the Klimek Brothers Well Drilling Jr. Legion baseball teams coached by Lee Backhaus; and many, many other volunteers. All of those who help with this event donate their time.

The Friends of the Library organization was formed in 1982 with just 36 members. Today, it has grown to more than 300 members, who help with fundraising efforts like the Used Book Sale, according to the Douglas County Library website,
