Reddit users are sharing reports of a fireball seen in the northwestern skies Thursday around 8 p.m.
Based on eyewitness descriptions and sighting reports submitted to the American Meteor Society (AMS), the event appears to have been a meteor, likely visible over southwestern Virginia. As additional reports are collected, researchers will be able to more precisely reconstruct the meteor’s path through the atmosphere.
You may have read reports about a NASA spacecraft expected to reenter the atmosphere this week. The United States Space Force confirmed that Van Allen Probe A reentered the atmosphere and fell into the Pacific Ocean near the equator on Wednesday. Its twin spacecraft, Van Allen Probe B, is not expected to deorbit until sometime after 2030. 🚀🌎
If you saw it, add your report to the AMS Fireball logs.
