For the millions of older Americans expecting their monthly checks from the Social Security Administration, the first wave of the essential payments for March is arriving this week.

While the payments will follow a normal schedule for the 71 million Americans receiving Social Security, one group of about 7.4 million Supplemental Security Income beneficiaries won’t receive their checks this month.

These payments are being sent out following a concerning report from the Congressional Budget Office, which revealed that the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance Trust Fund — one of the two funds used to pay Social Security benefits — would run dry a year sooner than expected.

The nonpartisan analysis agency for Congress estimates that the Social Security trust fund will become depleted by 2032. Last year, the CBO estimated that the trust fund would run out by 2033, but the timeline for insolvency has now been moved up by a year.

If Congress doesn’t act and provide a plan to prevent the trust fund from running out, Social Security recipients will face massive cuts to their monthly checks. This is worrying, as many seniors have raised concerns that the checks aren’t keeping pace with the rising cost of living and healthcare costs.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Social Security payment schedule for March:

When will I get my Social Security payment this month?

Social Security benefit checks are typically paid to recipients on Wednesdays, and the date you receive them is generally based on the type of benefits and your birth date.

According to the SSA’s benefit payment schedule, beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th day of their birth month will receive their monthly payment on Wednesday, March 11, the second week of March.

Recipients born between the 11th and 20th are paid on the third Wednesday of the month, and those born after the 20th are paid on the fourth Wednesday.

For those who received Social Security before May 1997, you can expect your payment on the third day of the month, unless that day falls on a weekend or holiday.

Beneficiaries receiving both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) can expect to receive their Social Security payment on the third day of the month and their SSI payment on the first day of the month.

What is the schedule for Supplemental Security Income checks this month?

Those who receive SSI checks won’t receive their benefits in March because March 1 landed on a Sunday. This means that the SSI payments were sent out early on Friday, Feb. 27.

Typically, SSI payments are sent on the first business day of the month, unless that day falls on a weekend or holiday.

Here are the rest of the SSI payment dates for 2026, according to the SSA’s 2026 schedule:
