Person found dead in burning vehicle that sparked Lancaster County barn fire, police say

THE MILITARY SAYS FOUR SERVICE MEMBERS WERE KILLED WHEN AN AMERICAN REFUELING PLANE CRASHED IN WESTERN IRAQ. TWO OTHERS WERE ON BOARD. THE MILITARY SAYS A RESCUE OPERATION IS STILL UNDERWAY. THIS BRINGS THE TOTAL NUMBER OF AMERICANS KILLED IN THE WAR TO 11. BREAKING OVERNIGHT, FIREFIGHTERS SAY A FIRE DESTROYED TWO MOBILE HOMES IN LANCASTER COUNTY. FIREFIGHTERS SAY THIS HAPPENED AROUND 245 IN THE AREA OF COLUMBIA AVENUE AND TRAILER PARK IN WEST HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP. FIREFIGHTERS SAY THE TWO HOMES ARE ACROSS THE STREET FROM EACH OTHER, AND THEY SAY NOBODY WAS IN EITHER OF THE MOBILE HOMES AT THE TIME OF THE FIRES. NO ONE WAS HURT AND THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION. ALSO BREAKING OVERNIGHT, 911 DISPATCHERS SAY MULTIPLE CREWS WERE CALLED TO A BARN FIRE IN EAST HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP. DISPATCHERS SAY THIS HAPPENED AROUND 345 THIS MORNING ON JUNCTION ROAD NEAR LANDISVILLE ROAD. NO INJURIES HAVE BEEN REPORTED. We now know a person was found dead inside a burning vehicle in Lancaster County, according to the East Hempfield Township Police Department. Video above: Headlines from WGAL News 8 Today.Police said they responded to the 2100 block of Junction Road near Landisville Road at 3:41 a.m. Friday, after a passerby reported a vehicle burning next to a barn. The fire had spread to the barn when crews arrived, according to officials. Roads in the area were shut down for an extended time due to the significant amount of apparatus needed at the scene, police said. After the fire was brought under control, investigators said a person was found dead inside the vehicle. The victim’s identity has not yet been released. The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death, and the Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal will investigate the cause of the fire.
