CARMEL- Aidan Galligan looked out of his front door Saturday and couldn’t believe his eyes when a huge black bear lumbered across the family’s lawn.
Bears, like other wild animals, are foraging for food in the wake of the snowy and frigid winter.
Aidan’s dad, who owns the Carmel Flower Shop, said he never saw such destruction of flora and fauna caused by deer and other wildlife.
“My trees and shrubs have been decimated since the snow cover was so heavy this winter,” he said.
In order to keep bears at bay, the New York State DEC has encouraged residents to refrain from placing bird feeders out of doors while making sure garbage pails are tightly secured.
