MARLBOROUGH, Mass. —

United States Coast Guard Academy women’s lacrosse senior Rowan Walsh (Hampstead, Md.) and softball junior Mack Murnane (Castle Hayne, N.C.) have been recognized in the most recent roundup of New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Athlete of the Week honorees for the week ending on Sunday, March 15th.

Walsh anchored the defense in a 10-6 victory over #19/#14 Babson College this past Saturday. The senior captain recorded three caused turnovers and scooped up two ground balls while helping her team shut out the Beavers across the second and third quarters. The final score marked the biggest win in program history, as Babson is the highest-ranked team to be defeated by a USCGA women’s lacrosse squad.

Murnane enjoyed a hot start to her junior season during the softball team’s spring break trip to Myrtle Beach last week. Across six games, the junior captain went 10-for-17 for a .588 average with five doubles, a home run, eight RBIs, and seven runs scored. Her best game of the trip was the final one against Penn State Scranton, in which she went 3-for-4 with two doubles, the home run, and two RBIs to contribute to a 17-2 mercy rule win in five innings.

Walsh and Bears women’s lacrosse will continue their season on Wednesday, March 18th, by hosting their annual rivalry game against the United States Merchant Marine Academy (1-2), while Murnane and softball also eye the 18th for a doubleheader at Roger Williams University (4-5).
