Despite the start of the college football season almost here, it’s also important time for college basketball teams.
Before they start official practices in November, basketball programs will start hosting high school recruits on official visits.
HC Dru Joyce and the Duquesne Dukes will be getting a start on that next month.
Pittsburgh Sports Now has learned that 2026 forward Heimir Helgason has scheduled an official visit to Duquesne from September 26-28.
Along with Duquesne, Helgason has two other official visits scheduled- Wyoming (September 12-14) and UMass (September 19-21).

Helgason is a 6’9” forward originally from Iceland that originally moved to North Carolina but will play this season for DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Florida.
At this point in his recruitment, Helgason holds offers from Duquesne, UMass, Wyoming, Dayton, Chattanooga, East Carolina, Florida Gulf Coast, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Illinois State, Stetson and Central Florida.
Helgason will likely see a big rise in his recruiting profile as he joins the DME Academy program. He’s described as a fluid player that can be an impact player on both sides of the court with his height.
Duquesne is looking for their first commitment of the Class of 2026.
