Just over a year since hiring a new chief executive officer following a nationwide search, Hospital for Special Care in New Britain has parted ways with its leader.

Crista F. Durand, who stepped into the roles of CEO and president for the New Britain-based long-term acute care facility last March, has stepped down from the post, hospital officials confirmed Tuesday.

“Hospital for Special Care and Crista Durand mutually agreed to a leadership change, effective March 16,” Ian Race, a hospital spokesperson, said in an email to Hartford Business Journal.

Race said Lynn Ricci, who retired last year after serving as CEO since 2015, “will assume interim CEO duties while we search for a new leader.”

Race added that the hospital thanks Durand “for her contributions to the organization and wish her the best in her future endeavors.”

No further explanation was offered as to what led to the decision to “part ways.”

Durand, 55, arrived at HFSC after serving as CEO at Newport Hospital in Rhode Island for 10 years. Before that, she served as vice president of strategic planning, marketing and business development at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London.

HFSC had hired Chicago-based executive search firm WittKieffer to help find its next CEO, and after a nationwide search they chose Durand, a Connecticut native.

HFSC, which has facilities in New Britain and Hartford, is also recognized for advanced care and rehabilitation in pulmonary care, acquired brain injury, medically complex pediatrics, and neuromuscular disorders including ALS.
