ARLINGTON, Va. (7News) — A bear cub is recovering after being abandoned by her mother in Central Virginia.

The Wildlife Center of Virginia in Waynesboro took in the six-week-old female Black Bear for rehabilitation on March 9.

Officials said the cub was found at a residence in Bedford County. At the time, she was dehydrated, quiet, but alert and responsive, officials wrote.

Earlier this week, the group shared that the young cub was taking formula from her bottle and had been eating portions of her “mush bowl” meals on her own.

The cub has also received a donation of two large stuffed animals, a bear and a duck, for comfort, while the center noted the cub is continuing to receive daily socialization.

“After feedings, she becomes more active and playful and will wrestle with her stuffed animals, but it usually only lasts for short periods before she runs out of energy and falls asleep,” a portion of an update from the Wildlife Center read.
