Vermont bears emerging from hibernation, officials warn

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont wildlife officials say they are already getting reports of bears emerging from hibernation and that it is time to bear-proof yards.

Vermont Fish and Wildlife recommends taking down bird feeders, keeping trash in bear-resistant containers, and putting chickens and bees behind electric fencing or a bear-proof enclosure.

Wildlife officials are also asking Vermonters to submit reports of bears engaging in potentially dangerous behavior.
