Connor Zilisch is only a rookie in the Xfinity Series, and yet he is currently the winningest driver of the season with five wins. Not just that, he is only trailing the current points leader and defending Xfinity champion, Justin Allgaier, by 21 points. This is thanks to his consistent, record-breaking run in his maiden season so far: 10 top 5s and 12 top 10s.
Speaking of the records he has broken. He is now the youngest driver in NASCAR history to have won six Xfinity races, his latest at Indianapolis came when he was aged 19 years and four days. The three-time Cup series champion, Joey Logano, previously held that record for more than a decade and a half.
Next up, Zilisch is only a race win away from joining an elite group of drivers and just two wins away from breaking another NASCAR record.
Connor Zilisch Eyes Iowa, Getting Closer to Breaking More NASCAR Records
Zilisch is currently in top racing form. In the last nine races, the 19-year-old has managed to finish all in the top 5, with three times finishing runner-up and four times in victory lane. In fact, his last three wins have come back-to-back. First, Sonoma, then Dover, and finally the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which was also the 100th win for Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s JR Motorsports.
The North Carolina native has already dominated on all kinds of tracks in the season, be it intermediate, road courses, or Superspeedways. However, a top-5 at a short track is still pending on his list. He got a P12 at Bristol earlier this season. But with Iowa Speedway as the next decision for NASCAR and Zilisch’s form backing him, he could do more than just a top-5.
If Zilisch managed to win at the 0.875-mile track, it would be his fourth consecutive win, making him only the third driver in NASCAR history to do it.

The last one was Noah Gragson in 2022, and Sam Ard before him in 1983. Also, if Zilisch wins Iowa, he will have a strong chance to break the record for the Xfinity Series’ most consecutive wins, as Watkins Glen will follow Iowa.
Nobody has shown the race craft Zilisch has on road courses this Xfinity season, winning COTA, fending off Shane van Gisbergen at Sonoma, or even a P2 in Chicago. Moreover, ‘The Glen’ was where he shook the NASCAR world in 2024, winning his debut race in the second-tier series. Well, time will tell if Zilisch is able to manage this feat.
But one record that Zilisch is likelier to break this season is that of being the winningest Rookie in the Xfinity Series ever. Currently, Christopher Bell holds the record with seven wins, and Zilisch is only two away from matching that and three away from breaking the record.
