Deborah Berke has been reappointed as dean of the Yale School of Architecture. Berke will begin her third five-year term on July 1, 2026.
“Over the past decade, Dean Berke has deeply influenced the direction of architectural education at Yale and demonstrated a particular commitment to expanding the School of Architecture’s connections to Yale College and the other graduate and professional schools,” President Maurie McInnis and Provost Scott Strobel said in a joint statement announcing the news.

During Berke’s tenure so far, the school has launched an undergraduate major in urban studies, which the school says has given undergraduates the opportunity to connect with students in the Master of Architecture program. Berke has also overseen projects that link students and faculty with local communities through affordable housing and historic preservation efforts.
Late last year, Berke was among five women making outstanding contributions to the architectural community to take part in a symposium held at Tulane. Earlier this year, meanwhile, Berke’s firm TenBerke was among the winners at the 2026 AIA New York Design Awards. Last year, Berke was awarded the 2025 AIA Gold Medal.
