One of the two semifinal matches at the WTA 1000 in Miami has been set, and it looks like a great matchup. Both of these players struggle at times, for different reasons, but both are elite talents that are playing very well right now. One will earn a trip to the Miami final and a big title. But who will it be? As always, we here at LWOT share our thoughts on the match.

WTA Miami Semifinal Prediction
Coco Gauff vs Karolina Muchova

These two players met just two months ago, in the fourth round of the Australian Open. Gauff came out ahead in that matchup, winning a tight three-setter. But these two both have a great mix of power and tremendous variety, making them two of the best players on Tour.

When she’s healthy, Muchova is nearly untouchable. There are very few players who can beat her when she’s covering the court at full speed. Unfortunately for her, that has been a rare occurrence in her career. She looks strong at the moment, though, winning the title in Doha last month. The Czech was crushed by Iga Swiatek last week, but she’s still in strong form this week.

Gauff, meanwhile, is inconsistent at times, and she hasn’t been near her best this year. She lost in the Australian Open quarterfinals, in pretty embarrassing fashion, and has crashed out relatively early in every event since then. She looks strong this week, and when her game is on she’s one of the best in the world.

The pair have met five times, and Gauff has won every single matchup. She has the measure of Muchova’s game. Assuming Gauff can control her range and find even minimal rhythm on serve, the American should be able to push through this matchup.
