Artie Starrs is stepping down as CEO of Topgolf International Inc. as the golf entertainment giant and its parent company continue to work toward a split.
TopGolf Callaway Brands Corp. announced on July 31 that Starrs resigned after he accepted another CEO position with an undisclosed business. Carlsbad, California-based TopGolf Callaway has immediately begun a search for a new CEO but expects Starrs to remain with the company through September to assist with the transition, according to the announcement.
The departure comes at a pivotal time as Dallas-based Topgolf and the Carlsbad-based parent company continue to explore a separation. TopGolf Callaway announced in September 2024 its intention to either spin off or sell Topgolf, with the former viewed as the more likely option. A spin-off would result in Dallas gaining another public company headquarters.
Topgolf and Callaway merged in 2021. After a post-pandemic boost to its sales, Topgolf has seen revenue fall in recent quarters as consumers have looked to save money amid high inflation. Amid the slowdown, Topgolf announced in March plans to lay off employees at its corporate office in Dallas. To help attract consumers and reignite growth, Topgolf has launched promotions this year like Sunday Funday and Topgolf Nights.
