Toruń ready for the European Championships in LA Masters
Toruń shows no signs of slowing down. Athletics continues to thrive in the city. The 15th European Masters Athletics Indoor Championships will be held in Toruń from March 27 to April 2, 2026. The city is fully prepared to welcome thousands of athletes and fans from across Europe.
“Tonight we concluded the 2026 LA Kujawy Pomerania World Indoor Championships. It was a wonderful event – everything went smoothly. We received very positive feedback from various international organizations. They emphasized that it was a top-tier venue for indoor sports, and the host city itself performed admirably. Everyone really enjoyed it – it was an extremely professional event,” said Adam Szponka, Deputy Mayor of Toruń . ” And on Thursday, we begin the grand opening of the European Masters Indoor Championships. This will also be a high-level event, albeit with a different focus – we’re dealing with amateur sport here. Participants are over 35 years old. Among them are also former professional athletes who no longer practice their disciplines professionally but still pursue their athletic pursuits. It’s a great opportunity to take part in competitions, compete against others, and even meet famous athletes. It’s also an excellent way to promote sports.”
The competition will be held mainly in the modern Kujawsko-Pomorska Arena Toruń, as well as at the Municipal Stadium, Rudelka Park and on the route on Bema Street.
“I was at the World Indoor Championships – an event the whole world is talking about. Today, however, I look with equal pride at the European Masters Indoor Championships, which demonstrate that the true power of sport knows no age. This is where the heart of passion, determination, and the joy of competition beats, ” said Wacław Krankowski, President of the Polish Masters Athletics Association. ” More and more well-known figures from public and sporting life are taking to the starting line, sending a clear signal: Masters sport has enormous value and a future. And when Olympic champions and athletes aged 35, 50, or even 90 meet in the same arena, something special is born. I invite you to the stands – see the energy, feel the excitement, and be inspired. Because I’m convinced that many of you will return next year, not as fans, but as competitors.”
3,476 athletes from 52 countries, including representatives from outside Europe, have registered to participate in the championships. Poland will be represented by 682 athletes, and the host city itself will be represented by 52 athletes.
The opening ceremony will take place on March 26th at 6:00 PM at the Kujawsko-Pomorska Arena Toruń . The event will feature national teams accompanied by children from Toruń schools. An artistic portion featuring young people is also planned.
