A fundraiser has been launched to support an Ovid assistant fire chief and his family as he undergoes cancer treatment.

The Ovid Fire Department shared the effort, asking for donations and community support for the family during the illness.

The fundraiser aims to help cover expenses while the assistant chief, Brian, is out of work receiving treatment in Rochester. He is expected to be out for at least a month and may spend time in the hospital.

His wife, Faith, is also expected to miss work at times while supporting him, according to the fundraiser description. Both work at the same workplace.

As of this week, the campaign had raised $2,427 toward a $5,000 goal from 32 donations.

The fundraiser was organized by a coworker who said the money would help cover bills and reduce financial strain during treatment.
