Even after the cam goes dark, there are still ways to stay connected with the cheetahs in the Zoo community. The Zoo’s Africa Trail habitat, home to species like cheetahs, lesser kudu and Grevy’s zebras, is undergoing a three-year improvement project.  Cheetahs will once again be a featured species when the exhibit reopens in 2027, and we expect two or three of the adult cheetahs at our Front Royal campus will be joining the Zoo family.

There’s also hope for another round of the Cheetah Cub Cam later this year. Our team works to introduce potential cheetah breeding pairs each spring and summer, although the outcome is never guaranteed. We’re crossing our fingers that a new litter will be joining us later this year, and that everything goes smoothly enough that we can house them in the camera-equipped dens.
