The Suns have 42 wins and hold a three-game advantage over the Los Angeles Clippers for the first play-in seed in seventh place in the Western Conference standings. That is likely where Phoenix will finish, sitting 5.5 games back of the sixth-place Minnesota Timberwolves. After missing the playoffs last season with Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal, the Suns are in a much better position. Phoenix won 111-99 in the series opener on March 8, with Devin Booker leading everyone with 30 points and 10 assists. The win ended Charlotte’s road winning streak at 10 games. Charlotte will be the 5.5-point favorite to even the series in the finale on Thursday.

The Suns are trying to bounce back from a close 115-111 loss to the Orlando Magic on Tuesday to just miss out on a three-game winning streak. Desmond Bane led the Magic with 21 points, and Jalen Suggs added 20 to overshadow a game-high 34 points from Booker. The Suns’ star hit a three-pointer with just 3.1 seconds left to bring Phoenix within two. But Tristan da Silva hit both of his free throws at the other end to earn Orlando just its second win in nine games. It also tied the season series 1-1 in the finale. The Suns did get good news in the game with the return of Dillon Brooks, who returned to the lineup after breaking his hand in late February. Brooks scored nine points and put up five rebounds.
Charlotte dominated in its last game on Tuesday to avoid a three-game losing streak, beating the Brooklyn Nets, 117-86. Brandon Miller led all scorers with 25 points, and Miles Bridges added 19. Charlotte started off quickly, outscoring the Nets 35-18 in the first quarter alone. Brooklyn is 40 games under .500, but Charlotte is still coming off an impressive feat, matching its season low for points allowed with 86. It’s even more impressive on the road regardless of their opponent. Brooklyn shot 38 percent from the field and just 20 percent from three.
