SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio — More than 60 authors from Northeast Ohio gathered with book lovers and aspiring writers August 2-3, at Loganberry Books for the 18th annual Author Alley event in Shaker Heights.

The two-day literary celebration showcased authors representing diverse genres including children’s books, poetry, self-help and horror. The long sidewalk entrance to the bookstore was transformed into a space where recently published local authors sold and signed their books.

This year’s event introduced a Saturday evening reception hosted by Cleveland Heights educator and award-winning writer Dan Chaon. At the reception, Chaon led participating authors in a lively Wheel of Fortune-style game; authors shared insights about their books, careers and creative processes.

The bookstore also highlighted Cleveland’s literary scene with a special display featuring novels either written by Cleveland authors or set in the city.

Author Alley serves as the culmination of Loganberry’s Local Voices program, which celebrates the achievements and diversity of Cleveland’s writing community. The event specifically features area authors who have published books within the past 18 months. Free to both authors and attendees, it provides valuable networking opportunities for aspiring writers and helps readers discover new favorite books.

Loganberry Books, an independent bookstore established in 1994 by Harriett Logan, sits on the border between Shaker Heights and Cleveland. The store houses approximately 120,000 volumes of new, used and rare books, and regularly hosts community gatherings, lectures, book signings, art exhibitions, live music and special events throughout the year.
