A plume of smoke from Canadian wildfires pushed air particle pollution into the unhealthy range in parts of Maine on Sunday, according to the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.
Ozone levels were “good” statewide, but particle pollution was considered unhealthy in northern Maine, unhealthy for sensitive groups in western areas and moderate in the rest of the state.
Those most at risk from the elevated levels include children, older adults and people with pre-existing conditions. Healthy individuals should also consider limiting strenuous or prolonged outdoor activity, the department said.
On Monday, particle pollution levels from the wildfires are expected to be moderate across the state.
