WHITEWATER, Wis. — UW-Whitewater will officially break ground on two halls on April 17.
This project, which consists of an almost $90 million renovation of Winther and Heide halls, two 1960s-era buildings on the campus’ east side.
The groundbreaking celebration will take place beginning at noon outside of Winther Hall, home of the College of Education and Professional Studies.
Guided tours of the building and appetizers will be available between noon and 12:30 p.m., with the groundbreaking ceremony and remarks to begin at 12:30. Opportunities for networking and taking photos will follow the ceremony at 1 p.m.
People planning to attend are asked to register by Friday, and free parking will be available in lots 12 and 14, adjacent to the building.
School officials say this project was approved as part of a capital budget bill signed by Gov. Tony Evers in March 2024. The renovation at Winther Hall will include student study areas, lecture halls with updated technology, and open labs.
As for Heide Hall, it will hold classes during the renovation. Heide Hall will receive roof and window replacements, along with new elevators as part of the project.
Construction is slated to begin in May 2026, with classes expected to resume in the building in spring 2029.
