Hawai‘i County Department of Water Supply notifies its North Kohala customers from Hāwī to Hala‘ula that effective immediately — and until further notice — a water conservation notice is in place, requesting a reduction in water use by at least 10%.
Conservation is necessary as only one of three wells serving the region is operational at this time because of unexpected equipment failure.
Department of Water Supply authorized emergency work to repair one of the inoperable wells as soon as possible.
Until repairs can be made and more wells brought back online, conservation is requested in the following areas:

Hāwī to Hala‘ula
Puakea Bay, Ka‘auhuhu Homesteads and ‘Āinakea Village.
All customers along Akoni Pule Highway, Mill Road and Ma‘ulili Road.
Customers in those areas are asked to conserve drinking water, use it wisely and to not waste it.
Taking short showers, fixing leaky plumbing and toilets, irrigating efficiently and turning off the faucet while brushing teeth are also easy ways to reduce water use.
