Arkansas State Police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened on Monday in Logan County.According to ASP, at 10:15 a.m., a Booneville Police Department officer tried to conduct a traffic stop on a pickup truck traveling on Arkansas State Highway 23. The driver did not pull over and instead sped away southbound, leading officers on a pursuit. State troopers responded to assist, and the chase came to an end near 6883 South Highway 23 when officers used a rolling block maneuver to stop the vehicle.Officials say the driver, identified as 45-year-old Gary Blaylock, got out of the truck while holding a firearm. An Arkansas state trooper and a Booneville police officer then fired their weapons, shooting Blaylock.Blaylock was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers or bystanders were injured.His body will be taken to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, where the manner and cause of death will be determined.Arkansas State Police Special Agents are handling the investigation. Once complete, the case will be turned over to the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office, which will decide whether the use of deadly force was justified under Arkansas law.
