Nick Shea, the local musician and artist known for drawing portraits of people on Boston Common, is bringing his art to the new flagship Uniqlo store opening Friday at Downtown Crossing.

According to a video shared on his social media pages promoting the team-up, Shea revealed that he’s created seven custom designs for the opening, which can be purchased on T-shirts and tote bags, available exclusively this year at the Downtown Crossing location. The designs were crafted in collaboration with the Museum of Fine Arts, the beloved Boston institution that has partnered with Shea in the past.

Known for his minimalist yet playful style, Shea’s creations for Uniqlo include a range of drawings, from visitors admiring paintings at the MFA to an anthropomorphized teapot (in reference to the Boston Tea Party), with each design honoring elements of Boston and its history.

To celebrate the opening, Shea is also set to appear at the new store over the weekend to draw his signature portraits on a first-come, first-serve basis, from 3-5 p.m., Friday through Sunday.

Born and raised in Boston, Shea is a jack-of-all trades. In addition to his work as an illustrator, Shea is a rapper, with his most recent album “Am I A Joke To You?” releasing earlier this spring.

“It truly means so much for me to represent my city and be able to collaborate with the museum on this project,” Shea said in his video on social media announcing the collaboration. “The best thing I’ve done with my life so far is sit in the Commons and offer portraits to people for all these years.”

The Uniqlo grand opening will also feature live performances, free cannolis from Mike’s Pastry, and giveaways.

Uniqlo’s over 20,000 square-foot space, located at 399 Washington St., has remained empty for over two decades following the closure of a Barnes & Nobles in 2006. Uniqlo is one of two trendy stores opening their doors in the downtown corridor this month. Teso Life, an Asian lifestyle store, will occupy a space at 459 Washington St. down the street from Uniqlo.
