Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever are gearing up for the 2026 WNBA season, looking to add to their roster when free agency officially opens on Saturday. Entering the offseason, the Fever had just three players under contract for 2026, including Clark, Aliyah Boston and Mikayla Timpson. But they have already begun working to bring back a few key players, including Kelsey Mitchell, Lexie Hull and Damiris Dantas.
While Clark was named to her second All-Star Game in as many years in 2025, the former Iowa Hawkeyes star appeared in just 13 games last season. She missed most of the regular season and all of the playoffs due to multiple injuries, including her groin and ankle. But Clark returned to form in March at the 2026 FIBA World Cup qualifying tournament, helping Team USA go a perfect 5-0 in her senior debut.

Ahead of free agency, Clark noticed an upcoming contest outside of the WNBA. On Monday, the MLB’s Chicago Cubs announced a fan competition for the best chocolate chip cookie recipe. Fans can submit their recipes online before finalists compete in a live bake-off. And the winning cookie will be served at Wrigley Field during the Cubs’ 150th anniversary celebration.
Clark has made it known that she loves chocolate chip cookies, joking that she would rather retire than give up the sweet treat. And after seeing Chicago’s new contest, Clark made a request to the Cubs, saying she “would love to be the taste tester.”
Sure enough, during a recent Cubs vs. Tampa Bay Rays game, Marquee Sports, which broadcast the game, offered Clark the chance to join them this summer to serve as a taste tester for the cookies.
“Caitlin Clark, if you are listening, let this be your official invitation to Wrigley Field this summer to taste test some chocolate chip cookies with me and everybody else at Marquee Sports Network,” Taylor McGregor said. “And if you’re wondering why chocolate chip cookies, the Cubs put out a tweet a couple days ago asking fans to submit their favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe and stories to why that recipe should be selected based upon their Cubs fandom. Caitlin replied and said she would happily volunteer as a taste tester, so this is like my Travis Kelce moment to Taylor Swift, but only it’s me to Caitlin Clark saying ‘come be my friend.’
Clark and the Fever will begin the 2026 WNBA season on May 9, hosting the Dallas Wings at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
