Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh is set to mark a significant milestone in India’s technological journey as Amaravati prepares to host a landmark event on World Quantum Day. Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate two advanced quantum computer test beds on April 14 at SRM University and Medha Towers in Amaravati Quantum Valley.The launch of these facilities, branded as 1S and 1Q, signals the beginning of a new technological era for the state. With the establishment of a quantum reference facility in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh is poised to become the first state in India to host such a capability.The twin facilities — set up at Medha Towers in Gannavaram and the SRM University campus — will enable testing and certification of quantum computing hardware. Developed using indigenous technology, the facilities are expected to play a crucial role in advancing quantum hardware manufacturing in India. Qubitech has established the 1Q test bed at Medha Towers, while the 1S facility at SRM University is based on superconducting technology. Both systems operate at ultra-low temperatures nearing minus 273 C, enabling precise testing of quantum devices. Designed as an open-access platform, the SRM University facility will support researchers, students, industry experts and companies involved in quantum computing hardware development.The project has received technical support from premier institutions, including the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).The inauguration is expected to draw participation from representatives of the National Quantum Mission, IIT professors, scientists, quantum research scholars, startup innovators and domain experts. Additionally, arrangements have been made for over 1.5 lakh students from universities and colleges across Andhra Pradesh to watch the event virtually.
