Shakira believes there’s a “special place in Hell” for women who don’t support each other.
While speaking to Henar Álvarez for the Spanish late-night show, Al Cielo Con Ella, the Colombian superstar was asked about a big-screen segment in her ongoing Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour, which introduces the “The 10 Commandments of a She-Wolf” to her fans.
Álvarez asked Shakira about the fifth commandment, which reads, “A She-Wolf doesn’t attack, she defends.”
“My question is: Are we sure about that, Shakira?” Álvarez asked with a laugh near the 21-minute mark in the video linked here. “You don’t think that sometimes an attack is the best defense?”
Shakira answered, “No, what I emphasize a lot with these 10 She-Wolf commandments are two things: self-love, which is very important, and love for the pack. To not compete, to help and support each other mutually, especially amongst women.”
The singer continued, “Like Madeleine Albright said with the incredible phrase, ‘There is a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.’ I think that’s what I base it on, and that’s the cornerstone of where the 10 Commandments of the She-Wolves are established from.”
In June 2022, Shakira made global headlines after announcing her split from soccer star Gerard Piqué following allegations that he cheated with current girlfriend Clara Chia Martí.
Although it wasn’t mentioned in the interview with Álvarez, Shakira throws direct shade at Martí with the commandments at her ongoing Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour, which kicked off last February in Rio de Janeiro.
“She-Wolves will not covet their neighbors’ possessions. ¡Claramente!,” reads the ninth She-Wolf commandment.
The word “claramente,” which means “clearly” in Spanish, doubles as a pun on Clara’s name, and was also used in Shakira’s scathing 2022 diss track, “BZRP Music Session #53.”
After performing to a record-breaking crowd of 400,000 in Mexico City in March, Shakira will bring the tour back to the U.S. for a second leg with a string of arena concerts in major cities through July 25. From there, she will bring the tour to Madrid for a multi-night residency at a bespoke stadium called Estadio Shakira.
On May 2, Shakira is set to perform at Copacabana Beach in Brazil, where organizers expect at least 1 million attendees, similar to the massive crowds drawn there by Madonna in 2024 and Lady Gaga in 2025.
