MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — Two people needed to be rescued from the old hospital building in Marshalltown over the weekend.
Marshalltown fire officials say two people were found inside “a cylindrical shaped boiler-type container unresponsive, but alive.”
The fire department was called to the abandoned building at 6:30 p.m. Sunday for a reported gas leak in the ambulance bay. They were also told there one two victims, one conscious and one unconscious.
Fire officials say there are no utilities (gas, water or electric) connected to the building. Police on scene directed fire crews to an open door and another person there directed them to the location of the victims.
Once fire crews started by ventilating the space with fresh air, the two people gained consciousness and were rescued from the container using rescue rope and equipment.
Those two people were taken to the hospital and their condition is not known.
Fire officials did not release why or how the two people got into the boiler container in the first place.
