Manchester United are pushing to sign Benjamin Sesko but Ruben Amorim won’t want that to be the last signing of the summer.

So far, Manchester United have made three major signings in Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon and Bryan Mbuemo.

Mbeumo impressed on his debut against Everton, where he played alongside Cunha in a new-look attack.

However, Ineos are not done yet when it comes to adding firepower to Ruben Amorim’s squad. United are ready to bid for Benjamin Sesko to complete a new front three.

Sesko is ideal for Amorim, but the United boss will not want the summer recruitment to end there.

Manuel Ugarte struggled against Everton in the final match of the US tour, giving away possession for their first goal before suffering a really poor start to the second half.

The Uruguayan midfielder was targeted by Everton’s press and he struggled to keep hold of the ball and progress up the pitch.

After watching the clash, journalist Henry Winter believes United “urgently” need to bring in a new midfielder this summer.

Encouraging signs of improvement for Manchester United at wing-back and No 10s but they urgently need an athletic, mobile central midfielder who doesn’t give the ball away. Still. Continued talk of a new No 9, and Sesko would be an upgrade on Hojlund, but a commanding No 8 also…

“They urgently need an athletic, mobile central midfielder who doesn’t give the ball away,” Winter wrote on X.

Winter pointed out that captain Bruno Fernandes “lacks the defensive discipline” to play deeper, meaning Amorim needs an extra signing to bolster his midfield options.

Can Man United afford a midfielder this summer?

United have already spent £130m on both Cunha and Mbeumo, and the arrival of Sesko will likely take that tally over £200m.

There is a way that United can afford a mega-deal this summer, but it relies on Ineos offloading the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho.

Combined, those three sales should raise around £80m, which would provide a huge boost to United’s PSR.

United have been urged to sign Carlos Baleba this summer, but the Brighton midfielder is currently valued at around £100m.

Signing Baleba is difficult this summer, but a deal could become easier next summer. However, whether Amorim or Ineos are willing to wait another 12 months for a star midfielder is up for debate.
