BROWN COUNTY (WLUK) — After more than 40 years, Bob Pyle has played his final round of golf in the Brown County Amateur Golf Tournament.

Pyle grew up near the golf course and got hooked to the sport in 1975, after he was asked to caddy for one of the players in that year’s tournament, and the rest is history.

He became eligible in 1979, and has since played in more than 40 iterations of the local tournament, and is the all-time leader in wins with six.

Before this year’s tournament, he announced that this will be his final year.

Pyle said it just felt like the right time to step away, with the final day of the tournament landing on Pyle and his wife’s 40th wedding anniversary.

“In all of the years that I’ve played, my wife and I have walked the last 18 holes. And it just so happens that today is our 40th wedding anniversary. So I figured no better time to hang it up.”

Pyle tied for fifth at this weekend’s tournament.
