Man United will face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League this evening and Michael Carrick could make a number of changes after the disappointing defeat to Leeds.
United will face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League this evening
Michael Carrick has looked to stick with a settled side as much as possible since his return to the Manchester United dugout, but he will ring the changes today after the poor display against Leeds.
A win for United at Stamford Bridge would surely book their spot in next season’s Champions League. Three points would see their gap over Chelsea increase to 10 points with just five league games remaining.
Senne Lammens will start in goal and Diogo Dalot is almost certain to return at right-back. Noussair Mazraoui did not look comfortable on Monday night and it would be wise to bring Dalot back into the starting XI.

That’s not the only change that will be made to the back four. Carrick confirmed on Friday that Lisandro Martinez would not be available for the trip to west London after his red card on Monday night. With Matthijs de Ligt still injured and Harry Maguire also suspended, Ayden Heaven comes into the team, and he could be joined by Casemiro. Leny Yoro was not spotted travelling down to London with his teammates on Friday, and if he is absent then Casemiro may move back into defence. Luke Shaw continues on the left.
Manuel Ugarte looked off the pace against Leeds but he might be given another chance at Stamford Bridge if Casemiro slots in at centre-back.
Kobbie Mainoo was part of the travelling squad that made their way to London on Friday, but if United felt it best not to risk even naming him in the squad earlier this week then it might be wise not to throw him straight back in just five days later. Bruno Fernandes might have to move back into midfield to plug the gap, and he can be pushed further forward if United are struggling to create chances.
A fluid front line could be the way to go today, so Bryan Mbeumo comes back into the team at the expense of Benjamin Sesko. Amad and Matheus Cunha can play on the wings, and Mason Mount could be handed his first start since mid-January against his former club. Mount will have a point to prove back in west London and now might be a good time to give him a chance.
