“That whale came ashore late evening on the 17th, and we examined it on Sunday morning,” said Jessie Huggins with Cascadia Research.

Officials say the whale was an adult male and 12.3 metes in length.

Huggins said the whale was malnourished, but not as emaciated as some of the other whales who have washed ashore.

“The exact cause of death is uncertain, but observations seem consistent with the overall pattern of mortalities this year, which now stands at 12 for Washington State,” Huggins said.
