The Indiana Fever guard signed a one-year deal with the team this month, but hoped it would be longer so she could settle in Indy with her dog and donkeys.

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham is putting a stop to speculation that she’s unhappy with her recently signed contract.

Cunningham responded to a quote posted on X Monday evening from Yahoo Sports, pulled from her podcast, “Show Me Something.”

“I’m not even gonna lie … it’s a little, kind of, frustrating,” Yahoo posted.

Hours later, Cunningham put the rumor mill to bed.

“I’m gonna shut this down right now. I’m not mad about the money…. I just wanted more years because I love it here. I wanted to get a house so I could bring my dog and donkey to Indy with me. That’s it. That’s the truth. I think we have something very special here in Indiana!!” she posted Monday night.

Donkey? How about three of them!

Cunningham responded to a curious fan in the X thread with a video showing her feed the donkeys — named Brutus, Kevin and Mark.

The 7-year veteran came to Indianapolis in a trade with the Phoenix Mercury on Feb. 1, 2025. She played in just 30 games before injuring her MCL, but led the Fever in 3-point percentage at 43.2%. She also finished fourth on the team in both points and rebounds last year.

Cunningham agreed to the new contract with the Fever earlier this month. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, but ESPN’s Alexa Philippou reported it was a one-year deal to come back to Indiana for her eighth WNBA season.

The Fever open the preseason Saturday, April 25 at New York, before a pair of games at Gainbridge Fieldhouse — April 30 against the Dallas Wings and May 2 against the Nigeria National Team.

Indiana’s regular season tips off Saturday, May 9 with a home game against the Wings.
