ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — A 22-year-old singer from western North Carolina has officially made it to the next round of “American Idol” season 24.

Murphy native Braden Rumfelt has advanced to the top seven on this season of “American Idol” after a tense results moment in which he was the last contestant named to move forward.

The top nine contestants performed at Disneyland, bringing a night of Disney-themed songs. Rumfelt sang a cover of “Remember Me” from the movie “Coco” and was mentored by past “American Idol” contestant Jennifer Hudson.
