Nate Tibbetts talks about coming home to coach his Phoenix Mercury in Sioux Falls

  • April 23, 2026

PHOENIX, AZ (Dakota News Now) -The WNBA will be in South Dakota for the first time ever on Saturday when Nate Tibbetts returns home with his Phoenix Mercury. And we heard from his players during the sportscast last night.

They are pretty excited to come to South Dakota for the first time and see where their head coach grew up.

And they’re also anxious to start playing exhibition games as they prepare for the regular season.

As for Nate, he’s also pumped to introduce his players to this part of the world and also to see so many family and friends.

Nate Tibbetts, Phoenix Mercury Head Coach says, “I’m excited to go back to South Dakota. I had to explain to the veterans that it wasn’t completely my choice to be going back to South Dakota. That was a business decision by our front office on the business side, but yeah it will be a lot of fun. I get to go back once in a while but I haven’t been back in a long time as a coach, to coach in front of a lot of family and friends.”

The Mercury will practice Friday morning and put on a clinic later that afternoon at 4 o’clock. They they will take on the Chicago Sky at 3 o’clock Saturday at the Pentagon. You can watch the game on FOX.
