The U.S. Drought Monitor project today declared severe drought conditions in most of Loudoun County after a month of below-average rainfall and above-average temperatures.

Loudoun has experienced drought or abnormally dry conditions for 43 of the past 52 weeks, and every week since Aug. 19, 2025, according to the database.

This is the first time that the county has been classified as experiencing severe drought since February.

Overall, 92% of Virginia is experiencing severe drought conditions. An area of south-central Virginia is in extreme drought, according to the assessment.
