Donald Trump addressed the nation following the alarming incidents at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday, April 25.
Shortly after the president and First Lady Melania Trump arrived, shots rang out at the Hilton hotel, prompting immediate action from the Secret Service.
They, along with other cabinet members, including JD Vance, were evacuated and returned to the White House. Speaking from the White House, Donald confirmed: “A man charged a security checkpoint, armed with multiple weapons.”
The man was “taken down by some very brave members of Secret Service,” Trump said. During his briefing, Donald shared footage of the Secret Service’s response to the suspected gunman at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, DC.
He is reported to be a man in his 30s from Los Angeles, with the Secret Service investigating his residence.

The footage depicted agents stationed at the venue reacting quickly to an incident occurring beyond the camera’s frame. The President also highlighted the significance of the ballroom he is constructing, indicating it would offer a more protected venue.
He said: “It’s not a particularly secure building, and I didn’t want to say this, but this is why we have to have all of the attributes of what we’re planning at the White House,” Trump said during his news conference.
“It’s actually a larger room, and it’s much more secure. It’s got drone-proof. It’s bulletproof glass. We need the ballroom. That’s why Secret Service, that’s why the military are demanding it.”
Donald also emphasized the suspect’s proximity to him, stating the suspect at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner “charged from 50 yards away.” So he was very far away from the room,” the president said. It’s unclear how the armed man was able to enter the venue.”
FBI Director Kash Patel and Attorney General Todd Blanche both addressed the press briefing before Trump came back to take questions.
Blanche said, “The charges should be self-evident, given the conduct. But as you’ll hear, there will be multiple charges surrounding the shooting, the possession of firearms, and anything else that we can get on this guy.”
When Kash addressed those gathered, he appealed: “For any information whatsoever related to this event”. He continued: “No piece of information is too small, no piece of information is inadequate. We will evaluate it all.
“We will also be conducting interviews of those who were there, and if any of those individuals have information, please come forward to law enforcement – the FBI, the Metropolitan Police Department.” He noted that investigators would examine the suspect’s background “thoroughly”.
