Twenty-two buildings were destroyed in a fire at the Duché de Bicolline medieval village in Saint-Mathieu-du-Parc, about 12 kilometres west of Shawinigan, Que., overnight.

In a Facebook post written Sunday morning, the organization behind the live action role-playing (LARP) destination said no injuries were reported.

“A painful awakening this morning at the Duché de Bicolline,” the organization wrote shortly after 9 a.m. “Our thoughts are with the affected guilds and members.”

It said it is meeting with authorities Sunday morning to take stock of the situation and would keep the public updated.

It thanked emergency crews for responding quickly and preventing the fire from spreading to the entire village. The organization had posted a first update just after midnight saying the situation was under control by then and didn’t present a safety risk.

The Duché de Bicolline is a village where people can immerse themselves in fantasy-medieval role-playing, known as LARPing, and is known for organizing an annual “grand battle” where teams fight against each other.

On Sunday morning, the organization shared a photo showing a large section of the village razed to the ground peppered with large puddles and smoke billowing from the wreckage.
