It’s not every day you get to feel like a princess —that honor is usually reserved for special days: weddings, quinceañeras, graduations, etc. Unless, of course, you’re the people’s princess Azzi Fudd. For Fudd, that crown moment came on April 14, 2026, at New York’s The Shed, on WNBA Draft night. Each year, right on the heels of the NCAA tournament, the WNBA Draft marks the league’s official passing of the torch, where college basketball’s top women’s prospects step into their professional era.

For the No. 1 pick, Azzi Fudd, fresh out of UConn, it’s no surprise she arrived in full glam, complete with an outfit change and a nail refresh. After all, she’s long been dubbed the “people’s princess” by her UConn coach Geno Auriemma.

Following the orange carpet, she transitioned out of a bejeweled black body-con dress into an equally—if not more—sparkling brown deep V dress, a second look that quickly went viral alongside her glam, a full beat, which was a switch up for the Dallas Wings guard.

Below, an exclusive look at everything that went into Azzi Fudd’s Draft Night, from her COVERGIRL beauty partnership to the quick transformation from red carpet arrival to #1 pick ready.

I know you trust your team when it comes to glam and styling, but what were some things that you communicated the night? Was there a mood board created to work in tandem with your two dresses?

We talked a lot about just making sure I felt like the most confident version of myself going into the night. That was the biggest thing for me, for COVERGIRL and my team to bring everything to life and make it all happen. It’s such a once-in-a-lifetime moment, and I wanted to feel like myself. With both dresses, we kept the glam really clean and stuck to glowy skin and soft neutrals. There was a loose mood board, but it was more about that feeling than anything too specific.

COVERGIRLCan you take me through the night? What were you listening to? What type of colors and palettes were you drawn to, I also noticed you made a quick change; did glam go into that or was it just the dress?

The whole day getting ready was honestly super fun, which helped a lot. We had music playing, family coming in and out of the hotel room just having fun. Makeup-wise, we stayed in that neutral palette of soft browns, warm tones, and a glossy lip, some shimmer on my eyes so it worked with both looks. For the quick change, we didn’t do anything too dramatic with glam. It was more about small refreshes and keeping my skin looking fresh.

What was the most memorable experience of the pre carpet? Was there anything your team said to you that stuck?

I think the most memorable moment was right before going out, just taking a second and looking at everything. My heart was beating so fast. My team and my family kept reminding me to enjoy it and really be in the moment and stay present.

COVERGIRLDid you get dressed first and then went into glam or did you do your makeup or hair first? Can you take me through the exact steps of the night and how long it took?

I started with makeup, then hair, and got dressed last. We really took our time with my makeup and made sure it looked natural. The whole process took a few hours, but it didn’t feel long. The energy in the room was so good, and I just had a lot of fun.

I also bumped into your Mom on the carpet and she looked equally as gorgeous. Did you guys do your glam together? Who were some of those supportive people in the room with you when you were getting ready

My mom being there meant everything to me. She was drafted in 2001 and so many things for female athletes have changed since then. We got ready together and just talked and checked in all day. She helped me stay present and in the moment. Having her and my team there was so important to me

CovergirlAs COVERGIRL’s partner for the night can you tell me exactly which products were used, how they were applied, and which products you stole from your artist for touch ups throughout the night

We used a mix of my favorite COVERGIRL products like the Trublend Skin Enhancer Primer in Plush Pump , Clean Fresh Blurring Skin Tint in 430 Medium Neutral, TruBlend Baked Luminous Bronzer in Caramel Truffle to keep my skin really fresh and glowy without feeling heavy. We also used Lash Blast Volume which gave me volume that looked great on and off camera. The main goal was to get a natural finish that would last all night and I knew these products would do that.

For touch-ups, I kept the Outlast Lip Stain in Honey Sculpt and Squishy Glaze in Fresh Plum with me for a hydrated and bouncy shine and the Tru Blend Undercover Concealer in Warm Honey to keep things looking fresh all night.

CovergirlDo you have any specific memories with COVERGIRL that made you want to partner with them?

Partnering with COVERGIRL for this moment was a no brainer. I grew up loving the brand and have always cared about feeling comfortable in my own skin and confident in who I am—and that’s exactly how I felt that night thanks to them. Everything felt easy and real. And for one of the biggest nights of my life, that’s all I really wanted.
