Fans of The Terminal List can expect a few surprises in the show’s second season.
Jack Carr — co-creator of the Amazon Prime Video series and author of the books it’s based on — revealed that The Terminal List 2 will deviate from the plot of his second novel True Believer, a stark difference from the first season.
“We can’t follow it because some things that I wrote about in the book actually came true [in real life], and in the book, the character prevents them from happening,” Carr told PEOPLE at the New York City red carpet premiere of The Terminal List: Dark Wolf on Monday, Aug. 4.
“So there are some mandatory changes like that, and then there’s other ones because you have constraints obviously with time and all those other things,” he added.

However, the author said it was a “cool challenge” to figure out how to turn his lengthy story into a multi-episode series.
“It’s much [more] different than writing a book [where] I have no constraints,” he explained. “I can do anything I want, and here you have a lot of constraints. So, it’s really interesting those two kind of different mediums.”

One aspect he said he was especially proud of was how the book’s imagery came to life on the screen for The Terminal List 2.
“The visuals that we have so far for True Believer — especially from Africa — they are so stunning, and I can’t wait to see that come together in the editing room,” he said.
Carr’s series stars Chris Pratt, who is also an executive producer on the show. In June, the actor shared a video on Instagram teasing his new look for The Terminal List 2, which included a long bushy beard, mustache and long curly hair.
In the clip, Pratt praised his hair and makeup team for doing an “awesome job” transforming him for the role, saying, “They do such great makeup and such great hair … And this mustache’s hair is like a wig – it’s a fake beard. It looks freaking incredible.”

Elsewhere in the video, Pratt also teased what was in store for his character. “I don’t want to tell you what I’ve been up to, but there’s blood on my hands,” he said. He then held up his hand to the camera showing the special effects makeup.
Amazon Prime Video’s The Terminal List follows a Navy SEAL named James Reece (played by Pratt), who returns home with conflicting memories after his platoon is ambushed on a covert mission. The series is based on a series of novels of the same name by Carr, with the first volume published in 2018.

Pratt also is featured in the The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, which is a prequel series that follows Taylor Kitsch’s character Ben Edwards — who is a friend of Reece’s — and is set seven years before The Terminal List starts.
The Terminal List: Dark Wolf premieres on Wednesday, Aug. 27 exclusively on Prime Video.
