The Marlins capped off an important road trip on a high note this Wednesday, securing a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers to clinch the series win. The victory handed Los Angeles its first back-to-back home losses of the season and marked Miami’s first series win at Dodger Stadium since 2018, a milestone that underscored just how far this group has come. Sealing the deal was second baseman Xavier Edwards, who robbed the Dodgers with an unassisted double play to end the game.
Offensively, the Marlins have emerged as a formidable unit, currently ranking among the top MLB teams with a .250 team batting average and .712 OPS. A major driver of the success is lineup depth, with three players ranked in the National League’s top ten in batting average: Edwards (.336, 2nd), SS Otto Lopez (.322, 4th), and C Liam Hicks (.315, T-9th). Beyond the power at the plate, the team has consistently pressured opponents on the basepaths, tying for the MLB lead with 36 stolen bases and maintaining a relentless, aggressive offensive identity
At the center of the offensive surge is catcher Liam Hicks, who is putting together a historic start at the plate. Hicks set a new MLB record with 28 RBIs by a catcher before May 1, highlighted by his 7th home run of the season on Wednesday, which also marked a new single-season high. His production has placed him among the league’s elite, with his 28 RBIs tied for second in the National League and a .576 slugging percentage that ranks 6th. Pair that with a .315 batting average, tied for ninth in the NL, and Hicks is quickly establishing himself as one of the most complete offensive forces at his position while anchoring a lineup that continues to produce from top to bottom.
With a pitching staff complementing this surging offense, the Marlins have firmly established themselves as a serious threat in the National League. Anchoring that rotation is 2022 Cy Young Award winner RHP Sandy Alcantara, who currently leads the National League with 47.1 innings pitched. It is a strong combination that signals an exciting season of Marlins Baseball!
