TACOMA, Wash. — Five students and a school security guard were taken to hospitals after a stabbing at Foss High School on Thursday afternoon, according to the Tacoma Fire Department and Tacoma Police Department.

When crews arrived, they found six injured people — five students and a security guard — and transported them to local hospitals. All six had cuts or stab wounds, police said.

Police said four of the students and the security guard were victims. The suspect, also a student, was taken into custody and transported to a hospital.

Officers responded around 1:35 p.m. to the 2100 block of South Tyler Street following reports of a fight or possible stabbing during school hours.

The Tacoma Fire Department later said all six patients were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was booked on five counts of first-degree assault, according to police.

Tacoma police said the situation was quickly brought under control.

“You know, as a mom, I know how terrifying that could feel,” Tacoma police spokesperson Shelbie Boyd said. “But we were here quickly, we were able to locate the individual, and everything was secured pretty quickly.”

Boyd said she did not know what led to the altercation. The investigation is ongoing and expected to continue into the evening.

“Violence comes in all forms,” Boyd said. “Unfortunately, today it was this. None of it is OK, and it’s not accepted in our schools.”
