RALEIGH, N.C. (WLOS) — Gov. Josh Stein signed House Bill 696 into law, providing nearly $320 million to help cover rising health care costs and increase enrollment in the Medicaid program.

In a statement, Stein said the bill also protects coverage for more than 725,000 North Carolinians who benefit from Medicaid expansion.

State health officials said the funding is enough to keep the program running through the end of June.

The bill includes several policy changes, such as shifting eligibility checks from quarterly to monthly and tightening documentation requirements.
